I was flciking though some forums yesterday and was thinking about fonts and there effect on the page?.....can they really slow a page down? can they really annoy a visitor to your web page so much they will never return?
Yes they really can! so so much! The more font variations you use on your website, will slow your website down! Not by much but enough to annoy potential customers or followers, its just so much fot the HTML or the CSS to handle when it could be focusing on other things like that really cool menu animation you've got going or the image carousel for you product gallery that takes up a MASHOOSIVE div tag! And besides sometimes....it just looks tacky and cheap!
Pick a decent font for your content that is easy on the eyes and easy to read, you can always use fancy fonts to attract attention or for a design purpose, doesnt look as cheap and tacky and sometimes adds a nice edge to your website and makes it look more professional if you can adjust menu fonts when someone rolls over it or use a certain font for a "collection" on you website of someones work! fonts and content make or break a website! Take care with your coding too, sometimes throwing in too much code variation can do damage to teh structure to the website, specially when you do too much copying and pasting and you put a closing tag in the middle of a piece of code that turns that specific piece of code....into a jumbled mess!
It would be nice to get a chat going on here about people different take son web fonts, from a design perspective and from a users point of view too!
